Lawn Pride of Indianapolis FAQs

Here you can find answers to some of our most frequently asked questions.
-
Our signature 7-Application Lawn Care Program produces real results by giving your lawn consistent applications of essential treatments. We have designed it to deliver highly effective, consistent applications to ensure your property stays green and lush through every season of the year.
This program includes fertilization, pre-emergent, weed control and insect control.
We have found that anything less than seven visits results in the lawn having more weeds, potential insect damage and results in a loss of that green color our customers are wanting. While we do allow for setting up fewer applications, we discourage this due to what it does to the results we can provide you.
-
While our 7-Application Lawn Care Program produces real results by giving your lawn consistent applications of essential treatments, we do offer programs with fewer than seven applications.
With programs of five or more applications, you will still receive free service calls. However, if you choose fewer than five applications per year, then your service calls are chargeable. The cost of the service call is equal to the application cost.
We don’t offer a program with fewer than five applications for lawns smaller than 15,000 sq. ft. in size.
-
Surface insect control added to your lawn care program helps protect your lawn.
The most common surface-feeding insects in lawns are:
- Ticks
- Ants
- Fleas
- Spiders
Unfortunately, there is limited to no control of grubs, fire ants, and mole crickets with surface insecticide applications. We offer separate specialized applications for these insects.
-
We do offer two additional discounts beyond the promotional offer:
- 5% Senior Citizens Discount
- 5% Military Discount
These discounts are not offered up front and are only considered upon request. Discounts cannot be stacked — only one discount may be applied at the time of sale.

It is important that we get a technician out to look at your lawn as quickly as possible. It wouldn't be appropriate for us to try to diagnose your problem over the phone.
Let’s get you signed up for your Lawn Pride Program so we can get a technician out to look at your lawn as soon as possible. If it is indeed an insect problem, your technician will discuss with you the best remedies needed to get your lawn back healthy again.

We use slow-release fertilizer, which helps avoid causing too much rapid top growth while delivering much-needed nutrients to your lawn’s root system.
The fertilizer we apply is water activated and requires watering the lawn manually or with natural rainfall.
If you need specific product details, your technician will provide a report after the application letting you know what was applied.
-
After your weeds are treated, you’ll start to see them discolor and begin to die within 3 to 7 days.
Cooler weather and extremely hot, dry weather can slow down the results from our treatments and take longer to work. Healthy, actively growing weeds will die quicker.
In hot, dry weather, watering the weedy areas of your lawn at least 24 hours after the application can help speed up the dying process.
-
It can be difficult to answer this without seeing your lawn. If your lawn has been neglected and is yellow, thin and weedy, it can take some time to get it into shape.
You may see lawns begin to improve after a couple applications, but realistically, it takes a full season to properly evaluate results. We recommend taking before pictures now so you can compare in 12 months.
-
Controlling crabgrass is achieved in two ways:
- Pre-emergent applications (two applications applied before the crabgrass has germinated)
- Post-emergent treatments (after the crabgrass has begun to grow)
Your lawn technician will apply the proper control material at the appropriate time of the season. Once treated, it can take up to 7–14 days to see noticeable signs of dieback. Multiple treatments may be required.
-
When watering an established lawn, it’s typically recommended to water until the top 6 to 8 inches of soil is wet. This is where turfgrass roots grow.
Most lawns need 1 to 1.5 inches of water per week — either from rain or irrigation — to soak the soil that deeply. That amount can be applied during a single watering or divided into two waterings during the week.
Just be sure not to overwater your lawn.
-
Your grass type determines the proper mowing height. Lawns can contain different grass types, so it’s best for your Lawn Technician to properly identify your grass and recommend the correct mowing height for your lawn.
-
Yes, overseeding is an important part of recommended lawn maintenance. Overseeding introduces newer turfgrass varieties into an older lawn, helping it better withstand insects, disease, drought, shady conditions and heavy traffic. The investment in overseeding can reduce the amount of fertilizer, water and pesticides required over time.
-
Visits are spaced out every 30–40 days.
Your yard’s 7-Application Lawn Care Program delivers consistent applications of essential treatments to your lawn. Weather and seasonal conditions help determine the best timing, and our trained and certified service professionals apply treatments at the optimal time for results.
-
You should expect to see our technician within 7–10 business days for your first visit. If your situation is urgent due to insects or disease, we may schedule sooner.
-
Yes. When our technician comes out to apply your first treatment, they will evaluate your lawn. If they find any problems, they will bring them to your attention and discuss how best to handle them.
With each visit, your technician evaluates the condition of your lawn and communicates any concerns.
-
Typically, you’ll start to see weeds curl up and die 7 to 14 days after treatment.
Weather plays an important role. Cooler conditions and hot, dry weather can slow down weed growth and result in slower-than-normal treatment response.
-
Normally, once the application has been watered in, it can take up to 2 weeks for your grass to turn green after fertilizer application.
Cooler weather or hot, dry conditions can slow down the growth of your lawn and cause slower-than-normal results from the application.
-
If your lawn is thin, it can take a couple applications of fertilizer to begin thickening.
To achieve the results most customers are looking for, it can take as many as 6–7 applications of fertilizer to significantly thicken a thin lawn.
-
Statistics tell us that grubs will affect most lawns each year, which is why we recommend including grub prevention in your lawn care program annually.
Preventative treatments help protect your lawn before damage occurs.

Liquid aeration and core aeration are two methods used to improve soil oxygen content and reduce compaction in your lawn.
Core aeration uses a machine to punch holes in the soil. It has a more immediate impact on your soil and grass, but the effects are not very long-lasting.
Liquid aeration uses a spray that disperses clay soil and helps reduce compaction over time. While the impact is less immediate, the effects are longer-lasting and cumulative.
Additional benefits of liquid aeration include:
- Maximum coverage compared to the limited surface area created by plug holes with core aeration
- No messy plugs or holes left on the lawn
- Can be applied anytime during the growing season
- Contains humates, kelp meal, enzymes, and bacteria designed to aid in the decomposition of thatch
- Creates pathways in the soil to deliver essential nutrients to grass, shrubs, and adjacent trees
-
We normally core aerate lawns in the fall. For programs that include two aeration services per year, you would see us in both the spring and fall.
-
Liquid aeration isn’t restricted to a specific time of year like core aeration is.
We can apply liquid aeration during the spring, summer or fall.
